There are about 100 million women farmers in India who are the leading force in agriculture today. These are often invisible faces, who work long hours in tedious, back-breaking tasks in fields.
With an emerging need to further facilitate the woman farmer, Mahindra launched a unique initiative called Prerna, to empower the unsung heroes of our agricultural landscape.
Launched in October 2017, the Prerna initiative was shaped with the intention of transforming the lives of women farmers, providing them with a better social status and respect in society. As change makers in agriculture, through Prerna the idea was to acknowledge their contributions and empower them through opportunities to help them become better farmers, thereby improving their lives.
Women play an important role in India’s agricultural sector.
Despite their pivotal role, prevalence of gender stereotypes, social restrictions and traditional role expectations hamper a women’s access to knowledge and technology in farming. They suffer from poor access to various resources, tools and services resulting in low productivity and more so lesser pay, in comparison to their male counterparts.
TRANSFORMING LIVES OF WOMEN FARMERS BY DELIVERING PROSPERITY, ENABLING THEM TO RISE.
